WHERE IT BEGAN
FROM THE DESERT TO THE COAST
Salty Horse started with a lot of the things we’ve always loved. With roots in Las Vegas, the desert has always been part of our story, along with a love for horses and a little bit of cowboy culture. We’ve always loved thrifting, finding things secondhand, design and giving old things a new life. And coffee has been part of the story for as long as we can remember.
So when we found this old 1938 feed barn just down the road from the beach, we didn’t want to turn it into something it wasn’t. We wanted to keep as much of its history and original character as possible, then bring in pieces of where we came from and where we are now.
That’s where the Salty Horse came from. A little desert, a little coast. Horses and seahorses. Old things mixed with new. A place that feels like it’s been here forever, even though we’re just getting started.

A working feed barn rises on Newport Blvd, serving the ranches and farms of early Costa Mesa.
A new chapter
Two coastal kids with western hearts find the old barn and dream up a café for the wanderer.

Salty Horse opens its patio. Strong coffee, honest food, dogs welcome — the neighborhood shows up.

Weekday mornings are golden. Weekends get lively, arrive early or embrace the wait.
Parking
Parking is tucked away behind the building, look for the lot off Newport Blvd. Street parking is also available nearby.
Groups
Groups are always welcome! All seating is first come, first served, so please keep in mind that we can’t guarantee larger parties will be able to sit together, especially during busy times.
Dog Friendly
Pups are welcome on our outdoor patio. Water bowls are available, and you can grab them a treat at the counter.
